Serving the Georgian Immigrant Community

Georgian Theater of New York

Georgian theater is an old and well-established art form that emerged along with European and Russian dramatic theater. It is liberally spiced with music and dance and elements drawn from regional idiosyncrasies of the Georgian people. The language is Georgian yet the dynamics of our productions make them accessible and enjoyable for the non-Georgian speaking audience as well. We include an English language synopsis and we introduced English super titles with our play “Sarke” that was performed in the Midtown International Theater Festival in July of 2011.

Georgians in general always feel a connection to their homeland, and there is a great appreciation and hunger for the Georgian performance arts. Unlike dances and music, theater is a form that is difficult to carry to a new country. Yet it fills a need in the cultural life of Georgians that cannot be replaced.

Our crew includes professional actors, directors and our own playwright, Lika Bakhturidze Sirelson who has written several full-length dramas and many stage productions for our events.
